Prepping – Emergency Preps

Emergency “Preps”

Most people go through life without ever even stopping to THINK about an Emergency, a Disaster, Civil uprising or outright war.  They have almost zero supplies and almost zero skills.

Most of us (in the USA) know that if there’s trouble, a fire, or someone’s hurt/sick, pick up the phone and call 911.  The cops come.  The  Fire Department comes.  An Ambulance comes.  Problem solved; right?

Not anymore.

We live in a time when calling 911 won’t be fast enough . . . or they’ll be overwhelmed and unable to come to help you.  What then?

This page of the Hal Turner Radio Show web site is for folks who take a moment to actually THINK “What if . . .?”

What if there’s a Tornado?  A hurricane?  A Blizzard? An earthquake?  A Flood?

What if the phones, Cellular, and the Internet are out?

What if the next time the banks crash, (and it WILL happen again) all the credit, debit and EBT cards stop working?

What if an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) happens from a Sunspot or from man-made attacks, and the electric grid goes down for months?

What if terrorists or a nation-state deploy Biological or chemical weapons against us, and we’re QUARANTINED at home for weeks?

Every household really _should_ have emergency supplies to tough-it-out on your own for awhile.  Some folks will have more ability to stock than others due to finances.

Whatever your situation, this page will point you in directions you may not have thought about, and may help YOU to prepare.  You cannot rely on government!

N100 Filter Masks

In the case of Chemical or Biological release – or even an uncontrolled outbreak of a disease – you may need to filter the air you breathe to get home or to protect you while evacuating.

Filter masks prevent tiny (microscopic) particles from going into your lungs.  They can help protect you long enough for you to get home from work, school, or to evacuate from a contaminated / infected area.

Here’s what they look like:

They’re inexpensive  $8-$12 each.  You should have at least one for each member of your family at home; in each family car and one for each of you while at work or school.

These filter masks are rated by the US Government’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Click Here for Various Quantities of NIOSH Model N100 Filter Masks

If you want to go top-shelf (expensive) to make certain you have absolute, state-of-the-art, no screwing-around protection,  then you need a Chemical / Biological / Radiological / Nuclear (CBRN) Mask.   Now, this MILITARY-GRADE technology is available to civilians.  Click the Banner below:

Waterproof Eye Protection (Goggles)

Protecting yourself from Chemical or Biological release MUST involve your eyes as well as using a filter mask for your lungs as shown above.   In cases where BIOLOGICALS are involved, persons may cough or sneeze before you walk into an area, and the tiny droplets from their coughing/sneezing remain in the air.  You walk through it not even knowing it’s there.  Some of those tiny droplets fly into your eye.  You blink, the virus or bacteria goes down into your tear duct, and POW, you’re infected.

Chemicals are often eye irritants.  You need to be able to protect your eyes from Chemical and Biological trouble. Waterproof swimming goggles are fast, cheap, and they do a great job for the average person.

Given the new hostilities between India and Pakistan, there is concern that there could be a limited nuclear exchange between those two countries.  IF THAT HAPPENS, smoke and radiation from such detonations will reach the east coast of the United States within 72 hours; and will saturate the continental US within 72 hours after that.   While the masks and goggles above will keep you safe from inhaling radioactive particles, you MUST also protect your Thyroid.

Your Thyroid stores iodine and one of the components of radioactive fallout is RADIOACTIVE IODINE.   Your body cannot tell the difference between Iodine and radioactive iodine; it will store both.   And if it stores the radioactive kind, that means exposed humans can get Thyroid cancer.

Thyroid cancer is 95% CURABLE in women, but 90% FATAL for men.

In the event that radioactive fallout is coming, you can protect yourself by taking Potassium Iodate pills.  This will increase the amount of “good” Iodine in your body, so your Thyroid will not try to store any additional iodine — thus protecting you.

DO NOT TAKE THESE PILLS UNLESS OR UNTIL RADIATION IS ACTUALLY A THREAT.  If you take these pills when there is no threat, they will cause your Thyroid to PERMANENTLY SWELL to the point where it would look like a TUMOR in your neck.  So only take it if actually needed AND ONLY TAKE ONE (1) PILL PER DAY UNTIL THE DANGER PASSES.

With Civil unrest escalating, and talk of Civil War here in the US becoming more common, some folks have thought about buying a Bullet-Resistant vest (Body Armor).

There are lots of different manufacturers making lots of different claims about their products, but it comes down to this:   Vest come in Level I, II, III and III-A with the final one being the best protection for a vest that can be worn UNDER your shirt.

A level III-A vest protects against any firearm of .44 Magnum or lower.

During civil unrest, handguns are likely to be the most-employed weapons given the hoodlums that will likely be engaging in the unrest.

Below is a link to the Body Armor that Hal Turner recommends.  You get a great vest, with really good protection, for an incredibly reasonable price of about $299.   You can even finance it with 1-minute approval . . . or put it on a Lay-Away plan!

If you feel you need protection from rifles, the bulkiness of the vest make them impossible to wear under  shirt; they’re worn outside clothing, and the costs are higher.   At the link banner below, you have to get the Armor plate CARRIER (Vest) PLUS a Level IV armor plate.  Total cost about $400 . . .

Portable Electric Generators

If electricity goes out from a storm, a flood, an EMP or some other reason, food in your refrigerator will start going bad within 8 hours.  A lot depends on how often the refrigerator is opened, but within 8 hours, even closed refrigerators warm up.

You need to have a way to provide electric to keep your frig cold so you don’t lose all your food.  An emergency generator can do that for you.

The average family refrigerator uses 1200 watts of power. The average microwave oven is 1,000 watts, but needs about 1900 watts (IN) to produce those 1,000 watts (OUT).  Of course, houses have lights, gadgets and gizmos.  You need a source of emergency electric that can supply that!  If you buy a generator with 1500 watts, you can power the frig, and maybe a couple lights, or a small  TV.  If you want to be able to run the frig and a microwave, you have to ADD the watts together to get the total, then buy a generator capable of meeting that total.  Most homes can be fully powered by 7500-10,000 watts.  Whatever your power needs, the links below the photos can show you all sorts and sizes of generators.  REMEMBER: NEVER USE A GSASOLINE-POWERED GENERATOR INDOORS BECAUSE THE EXHAUST GAS FROM ITS MOTOR RUNNING CAN KILL YOU.   THE GENERATOR STAYS OUTSIDE and powers your stuff via extension cord.

Emergency Heat

Depending on where you live, you may get some pretty brutal Winter weather.  If the electric goes down, maybe you can run your furnace with a generator.  Maybe not.  The portable heaters below give off a really good amount of heat. They run on Kerosene fuel and can heat a 1200 Sq. Ft. apartment for 8 hours on 2 gallons of fuel, keeping the indoor temp around 75!   (Never use Gasoline in a heater like this; it will instantly EXPLODE)

Spare Fuel Storage Containers

DO NOT STORE FUEL IN YOUR HOUSE.  It must be kept outside (on a terrace, a backyard, etc.)

Here’s what they look like:

When you store gasoline, even under the best of climate circumstances, the fuel WILL GO BAD after awhile.  Sometimes it goes bad in three or four months.  Sometimes six to nine months.  Sooner or later, it goes bad.  You can deal with this very simply by using PRI-G Fuel Stabilizer.

PRI-G stabilizes gasoline for storage, making it last very much longer.   Even better, PRI-G will RESTORE STALE FUEL to refinery-quality-fresh EVEN AFTER IT IS STORED FOR A YEAR!  Add four ounces of PRI-g to five gallons of stale fuel, and like magic, the fuel is like new!

Every fire extinguisher has an alphanumeric rating that tells you what types of fires it can extinguish as well as the size of fire it can put out.

The letters stand for the class of fire the extinguisher can be used against:

A – ordinary combustibles (wood, paper, plastic, etc.)
B – flammable liquids (oil, gas, petroleum, etc.)
C – electrical equipment
D – metals
K – cooking oils and fats

The numbers indicate how much of the fire can be put out by the fire extinguisher. Every number before the A means it is as effective as 1 ¼ gallons of water. For example, 2A means the fire extinguisher is as effective as 2 ½ gallons of water, and so on. The numbers before B and C are a measure of the amount of square feet the fire extinguisher can put out. For example, a 10:BC fire extinguisher can extinguish a fire over 10 sq ft.

For GENERAL household purposes, a Fire Extinguisher with a rating of 3A:40BC is a very reasonable and reliable one to have around.  They come in various shapes and sizes; here’s what they look like:

Disruption of our financial system could see the inability of people to use credit, debit or EBT cards.  Stores may or may NOT accept checks.  So if things go bad economically – or from a storm or natural disaster – how do you EAT?   You need to have emergency food to tough-it-out for a few WEEKS.  Especially if some disease outbreak or bio-weapon is released against us!   You could be QUARANTINED for weeks until the danger passes.

Below are photos from the Pacific Nortwestern USA on February 7, 2019.  THIS YEAR.   There’s a big snow storm being forecast.  Look at the Parking Lots at shopping malls and specifically, the store shelves in Costco and Supermarkets:

You can’t wait . . . you MUST get food BEFORE everyone else figures out there’s trouble coming.  Otherwise, you’ll find yourself facing empty store shelves . . .  Just like the people above, on February 7, 2019!

Below are EMERGENCY FOOD vendors.  Each one has a different selection of food and different times to plan for: 3 days, a week, a month, etc.

Emergency Water Storage

People can go without food for weeks; but a human can only survive about THREE DAYS without water. In a natural disaster, economic upheaval, terror attack with biological or chemical weapons, or fallout from a nuclear exchange between warring nations, you need to have water stored for yourself and each family member.  NOT FOR WASHING – but for survival: Cooking, eating, and drinking.  1 gallon per person, per day is the rule of thumb.  Do the math, then get yourself the means to store a couple weeks worth of water.

Here’s what they look like:

Gravity-Fed Water Filters

If you run out of stored water in an emergency, you’re going to need to get water from nearby rivers, streams, creeks or other sources.  THAT WATER MUST BE FILTERED or it can make you deathly sick.  The link below shows you various types and sizes of Gravity-fed water filters.  You pour the unfiltered water in on top, it goes through the filter and comes out the bottom – clean.  NEVER CONSUME RIVER, STREAM, CREEK, water which has not been filtered.

Nowadays, Civil unrest is a real issue.   Roving bands of angry mobs, upset over something they didn’t like, loot, riot, pillage, steal, burn and even KILL.   You have to be able to protect yourself, your family, and your property from them.

Even worse, your own neighbors, if they know YOU have food but they don’t, will become a danger to you if food supplies get interrupted.  You have to be able to protect your own because it will come down to a simple, ugly, choice: Feed them, or feed your own family.  They lose.

Below are links to quite a few different firearms suppliers and ammunition sources.

Having lived through the attacks of 9-11 here in New York City, I can attest to the fact that communications circuits can become INSTANTLY overloaded and unusable for hours.  A simple thing like making a phone call from a landline or a cellular phone, became all but impossible during that attack.

In the years since, we have seen example after example of similar communications outages during natural disasters: Earthquakes, Wildfires, Hurricanes, and more.

One major vulnerability we all have now is the Internet; it carries a majority of phone calls now.   When the net goes down, those calls cannot go through; not via home VoIP, landline, or even cellular.

So what do YOU do to get around that?

Communications gear!

The cheapest, fastest, and most reliable simple communications gear is Citizen’s Band radio;  “CB”

To this day, truckers all over America use CB to talk to each other as they pick up and deliver freight across America.

CB does NOT require any special license or training.  You plug the CB radio into your car cigarette lighter, Put a magnet-mount antenna on the roof or trunk, screw the antenna cable into the back of the radio, turn it on and talk.  It’s THAT simple.

CB has 40 channels.   Channel 19 is for truckers and traffic.  Channel 9 is for Emergency Use Only.

You decide among your own family which of the other channels you will use in an emergency, and if one takes place, THAT’s the channel you all agree to meet on.

CB has limited range.  In densely populated urban environments, you can only talk a few miles apart.  The same holds true for very mountainous environments.  But everywhere else, CB is reliable for ten miles or more.

It might just help you communicate with your loved ones when all else has failed.

It’s cheap, fast, and reliable.

Here’s what CB’s Look like:

Click Here for a HUGE selection of both new and used CB radios.  Remember, you need an ANTENNA with the radio in order for it to work.  SO if you see a radio without an antenna, make sure you search for an antenna for it as well.
