After nearly 150 years of solely endorsing Republican candidates for US president, the San Diego Union-Tribune in the US state of California has decided to endorse Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Union-Tribune stated that Clinton is the safest choice for the United States and the rest of the world.

“This paper has not endorsed a Democrat for president in its 148-year history,” the newspaper said. “But we endorse Clinton.”

It also said Trump is putting on an entertaining show, but that he has no coherent worldview, and could end up being friendlier to Russia than some of America’s historic partners and allies.

A potential Trump administration could ruin the trust that the rest of the world places in the US financial system, the editorial added.

While the paper said it understood concerns about Clinton’s private email server, exorbitant payments for Wall Street speeches and the Clinton Foundation practices, the Democratic nominee still has a better temperament and experience for the job.
