Danish human rights activist Lisbeth Zornig was fined over 22,000 ($3,300) kronas for human trafficking after she gave a lift to a family of Syrian migrants, local media reported Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Zornig gave a lift to a family of refugees on September 7, driving them from Southern Denmark to Copenhagen. Her husband was fined the same amount for inviting migrants to their home, and then driving them to a train station and buying them tickets to Sweden, Politiken newspaper reported.

“I came across a family of six people who were on their way to Sweden, pedestrians. I have a car, where I can fit six passengers. So I helped, like so many others did that day,” Zornig said as quoted by the newspaper.

The court in Danish city of Nykobing Falster has issued a maximum fine to both husband and wife for trafficking migrants. Zornig said after Friday’s hearing that the court’s decision was “criminalization of common decency.”
