LAST UPDATE
Arab League has called for demonstrations against the publication of cartoons of Islam’s Prophet Mohammad in a French magazine.

The Arab body, however, urged Muslims around the world to “control themselves” and demonstrate their rejection of the images in a peaceful manner.

It also described the cartoons published in the French Charlie Hebdo magazine as “provocative and outrageous”. The league also called for reconciliation and respect among cultures.

The sacrilegious move, which come as protests against an anti-Islam film produced in the US are still under way across the globe, has fueled anger among the Muslims.

The Vatican and Egypt’s top religious seminary, Al-Azhar, have condemned the publication of the caricatures. Tunisia’s ruling Ennahda party has also said that Muslims have “the right to protest” against the cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

Security has been stepped up at France’s interests abroad following the publication of the cartoons. French embassies, consulates, cultural centers and international French schools in some 20 countries, including Egypt, Indonesia and Tunisia, will be closed on Friday as a precaution.
