The European Union is gravely concerned with the detention of two journalists from Britain and France in the Central African country of Burundi, the lead European External Action Service spokesperson said Friday.
BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The Burundian Public Security Ministry announced the detention of 17 people in a police operation in the capital of Bujumbura earlier in the day. French journalist Remy from Le Monde daily and British photographer Moore were among those detained by police.
“We are extremely concerned about the detention of journalists in Burundi today,” Catherine Ray told reporters.
The spokeswoman added that an EU delegation and the French ambassador to Burundi were following the situation and had already discussed the detention with the Burundian foreign minister.
