MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The European Parliament voted in favor of a resolution on disinformation promoted by some countries and non-state actors, implicating Russia in these activities, a press release said Monday.
“Hostile propaganda and disinformation directed against our societies by both Kremlin and non-state actors such as Daesh is a fact. In order to counter it effectively, we first need to be able to fully identify them,” member of the European Parliament Anna Fotyga said, as quoted in the resolution.
The resolution stressed the need to protect Europe from Islamic terrorist organizations actively working on inciting hatred toward European values and attracting new recruits.
The members of the European Parliament also expressed their concern over Russian media expansion, including “social media and internet trolls,” and what they saw as an attempt to sow discontent in Europe.
The resolution called for the promotion of awareness and positive messages to counter the propaganda.
