Sex assaults: Ex-teacher Edward Anthony Jones jailed

A 33-year-old former teacher has been jailed for six months after admitting sexually assaulting five teenage girls.

Edward Anthony Jones, from Ceredigion, focused his interest on older teenage girls during a nine-month period, Swansea Crown Court heard.

Judge Peter Heywood called it “a significant fall from grace”.

Huw Rees, defending, said the assaults by Jones, who was of previous good character, were in the lowest category and he had brought tragedy on himself.

Patrick Griffiths, prosecuting, told the court there were seven counts of assault which involve “a clear case of admitted sexual touching”.

The court heard that the incidents took place over a nine-month period. Jones was arrested at his home and in interviews denied any sexual touching but later pleaded guilty at court.

In passing sentence Judge Heywood referred to “one of many references” which described Jones as a “loyal, dedicated member of staff” and a good teacher.

However he said Jones’s conduct was “truly appalling”.

Jones was also banned from working with children and vulnerable adults.
