The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has launched a barrage of rockets deep into Israel in response to the latest Israeli attacks against the besieged Gaza Strip.

According to reports, the attack late on Monday triggered Code Red sirens in central Israel for the first time in the current escalation.

The Israeli army also confirmed that “several barrages” of rockets have been fired into southern Israel in just a few minutes. Media reports, however, said that some forty rockets were fired.

Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, has claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.

Unconfirmed reports said that at least one rocket has hit a building in the city of Ashdod, leaving one person injured.

Israeli warplanes have already conducted several air attacks in central and southern Gaza since Friday.

On Monday evening, Israeli warplanes carried out at least four airstrikes on the northern part of the coastal enclave, injuring a four-year-old boy.

According to reports, seven Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks early on Monday and four others were injured.

The Israeli forces frequently bomb the Gaza Strip, claiming the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, disproportionate force is always used in violation of international law and civilians are often killed or injured.

Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed due to Israeli aggression over the past few years.

The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
