NEW DELHI, (Sputnik) – India has a great responsibility to help the world counter new threats to global peace, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the country’s top diplomats Saturday.

Commenting on the conflicts in the 21st century, Modi said there were new “actors” and new “threats” to global peace and India has a great responsibility in helping the world fight these challenges.

Indian envoys should take advantage of the prevailing global environment to position the country in a leading role, Modi added while addressing the Conference of Heads of Indian Missions from across the world in New Delhi.

Modi added that the diplomats “should shed old mindsets” and adapt to the global situations.

On Monday, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj discussed the most acute global problems, including conflicts in the Middle East, with his Russian and Chinese counterparts during talks in Beijing.

The sides agreed to increase cooperation among their missions at the United Nations to advance the formation of a modern security framework initiative in the Asia-Pacific region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
