A senior Iranian diplomat has slammed the “injustice” in Bahraini courts, warning that Manama’s iron-fist policy will not help efforts made to resolve major issues in the country.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that injustice in Bahraini courts and harsh verdicts handed down to anti-regime protesters will not help resolve the country’s crisis.

The Iranian official added that extremist elements have stripped the Bahraini authorities of the power to find political solutions to problems it is facing.

Amir-Abdollahian expressed regret that despite opposition activists voicing their demands peacefully, they usually face a tough response from the Manama regime.

The senior Iranian diplomat also warned against the ramifications of such Draconian measures on the part of the Bahraini government.

His comments come after a court in Bahrain sentenced 14 activists to life in prison in connection with an explosion that wounded four policemen last year.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for political reforms.

In March 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to Bahrain to help Manama quash the anti-regime protests.

The Saudi-backed crackdown on protesters turned people’s demands into calls for the downfall of the regime.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others injured in the Manama regime’s ongoing crackdown on demonstrations.
