Iran appoints new envoy to UN office

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has appointed Reza Najafi as the Islamic Republic’s new ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna.
The new envoy was proposed by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and endorsed by President Hassan Rouhani.
Najafi has served as the general manager of Foreign Ministry’s Political and International Affairs, chairman of Foreign Ministry’s Disarmament and International Security, Iran’s representative and senior advisor at the UN Disarmament Commission in New York, and Iran’s deputy representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons at the Hague.
The Iranian diplomat, who has extensive experiences in the fields of disarmament and international security, has also been a member of Iran’s delegations to different international conferences, including review conferences for the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the meetings of the International Atomic energy Agency Board of Governors.
