Lebanese Army commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi has praised Iran’s role in maintaining stability of regional countries, particularly Lebanon.
In a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi, the commander stressed the importance of securing Lebanon’s stability and security and called on all friendly countries to help Beirut achieve this goal.
He warned against the adverse consequences of war and conflict on the regional countries’ economic situation and expressed hope the ongoing crisis in Syria would be resolved as soon as possible and involved parties would take steps to settle their problems through peaceful ways.
We seek to prevent the destructive impacts of the Syria unrest on Lebanon by pursuing a neutral policy and need other countries’ help in this regard, Kahwagi added.
The Iranian ambassador, for his part, emphasized on the Islamic Republic’s policy of supporting stability of all regional countries, saying that it is an inevitable necessity to keep all Lebanese groups and sects united in order to counter the Israeli regime.
Roknabadi added that Iran is taking all-out measures to prevent the negative consequences of the Syria crisis on Lebanon and will spare no effort in this regard.
Syria has been the scene of unrest since early 2011 and has witnessed the deaths of thousands of people, including large numbers of army and security personnel in the violence.
