A mother died after a blundering surgeon left equipment inside her during a minor operation, it emerged today.

Nicole Haynes, 35, died after clips were not removed from her abdomen following keyhole surgery at Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Since her death last month, the surgeon, who has not been named, is no longer operating but has has not been officially suspended. An investigation has also been launched.

Mrs Haynes, who died on March 29, leaves behind husband Nigel and their young son, Alfie.

In a tribute to her, which was left on a website, they wrote: ‘To the most beautiful wife and mother. We will miss and love you forever. All our love.’

Another tribute read: ‘You were such an amazing mother, sister, daughter and best friend. You will forever be in our hearts. I will miss you always.’

Her husband’s parents, Pam and Len, wrote: A beautiful daughter-in-law with the sunniest smile. We miss you so much.’

Another tribute, left by mourners on the Eastbourne Herald site, read: ‘To our beautiful NicoleYou were such an amazing mother, sister, daughter and
best friend.

‘You will forever be in our hearts, I will miss you always, all our love,
Anna, Jason and Georgia.’

A spokesman for East Sussex Healthcare Trust said: ‘We can confirm that an investigation is currently underway following the death of a patient after laparoscopic surgery.

‘We have been in contact with the patient’s family and offered our sincere condolences.

‘We are treating this with the utmost seriousness and the surgeon involved is not currently undertaking any operations pending the outcome of the investigation.’

An investigation into Nicole’s death has been opened and adjourned by East Sussex Coroner’s Court.

Her funeral will take place in Eastbourne on April 24.
