Allegations of Russia’s involvement in hacker attacks abroad are unfounded and absurd as Russia itself has been target of cyber-terrorism on numerous occasions, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Peskov said the website of the Russian president had recently become target of a massive hacker attack, which clearly showed that Russia faces the same cyber threat as other countries.
“These are absolutely unfounded accusations, which are often quite absurd and are not supported by concrete facts,” Peskov told reporters.
The spokesman stressed that the fight against cyber threats demands international cooperation.
“Unfortunately, we do not always see such a constructive approach among our partners,” he added.
In May, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said Russia would revise its information security doctrine to reflect geopolitical developments as new threats and challenges have emerged.
Earlier in October, the US Department of Defense announced plans to build a massive Cyber Mission Force by 2018 to guard against cyber attacks. Department officials noted that the Cyber Command constantly monitors Russian activity.
