RIGA, January 6 (Sputnik) – Latvia’s government institutions are seeing a significant increase in cyberattacks, Defense Minister Raymond Vejonis told television channel LNT in an interview Tuesday.
“Cyberattacks have become more common, but we are prepared. There are special technical solutions to help protect our state institution websites from attacks,” the minister said.
According to Vejonis, Latvian government agencies have been the subject of attacks not only from China and Russia, but other countries as well.
Latvia took over the presidency of the Council of Europe on January 1.
Internet security experts predict an increase in cyberattacks and other cybercrimes in 2015. According to a Pew Research poll released in October, two-thirds of respondents expect cyberattacks to cause widespread harm in the next decade.
