WADA lost credibility after its hacked database revealed that US athletes had been allowed to use prohibited substances, says Alexei Pushkov, the Foreign Affairs Committee chairman in the lower house of the Russian parliament.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) lost credibility after its hacked database revealed that US athletes had been allowed to use prohibited substances, Alexei Pushkov, the Foreign Affairs Committee chairman in the lower house of the Russian parliament said.

“After it was revealed that WADA had allowed US athletes to use banned substances, the organization cannot be trusted anymore,” said on Twitter Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, hacking group Fancy Bear leaked alleged WADA documents claiming that the agency had allowed US tennis players Serena and Venus Williams, as well as gymnast Simone Biles, to take banned substances in various years for therapeutic purposes. WADA said that it had received information from law enforcement authorities that Russia was behind the hacking attack.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov later ruled out Russian involvement in the cyber attack on the WADA database.
