Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel is facing a growing backlash over her decision to allow an unprecedented influx of migrants and refugees into the country from within her party. The youth wing of her conservative CDU party last night voiced strong criticism of her open doors policy at a meeting she addressed.

Merkel’s decision to personally invite millions of migrants and refugees to come to Germany in record time in violation of the Dublin rules on registering refugees has no political legitimacy. She did not ask the parliament or her party or hold a referendum. Now that lack of legitimacy has come back to haunt her. She is not able to get the people or most of her party behind her course. Merkel has moved onto new political ground, acting more akin to a DDR dictator. DDR leaders such as Erich Mielke also made gigantic policy decisions without consulting any other body, supported only by an inner core.

Merkel has with her single, far reaching decision to open doors to millions of refugees and migrants undermined the entire parliamentary and democratic system in Germany and set the stage for violent upheaval and civil war. A scenario that was unthinkable a few months ago, has now become a real possibility in a the growing climate of lawlessness, violence and discontent with Merkel’s dictatorial style gripping Germany.
