Supporters of Moldovan opposition parties taking part in anti-government protests in the capital of Chisinau called on the authorities to meet the opposition’s demands by Thursday, the head of the Socialist Party of Moldova (PSM) said Sunday
CHISINAU (Sputnik) — An estimated 20,000 to 100,000 people are protesting in the central part of Chisinau, voicing opposition to the country’s leadership and calling for snap parliamentary elections. The participants of the rally, organized by a coalition of opposition forces, such as the PSM, as well as Our Party and the Civic Platform Dignity and Truth (DA), have blocked several roads within the capital.
“Like the national and international roads have been blocked today, another national routes will be blocked if they [the authorities] do not accept our claims in the next three days before 16:00 [14:00 GMT] of Thursday,” Igor Dodon said.
He added that the protesters could also block railways and the airport.
Protests erupted in Chisinau on Wednesday after Pavel Filip from the Democratic Party was appointed a new prime minister.
Soon after the beginning of the protests, several people broke into the building of parliament. At least 31 people, including 27 police officers, were injured in the clashes.
