The Moldovan left-wing opposition will give the country’s president, Nicolae Timofti, an ultimatum, demanding his resignation, during a picket on Monday, Leader of the Our Party Renato Usatii said.
CHISINAU (Sputnik) — Our Party supporters and other opposition activists are holding a protest near the president residence in the Condrita commune of the Chisinau municipality, according to a video posted by Usatii on Facebook early on Monday.
Since early September, major anti-government protests have gripped the Moldovan capital of Chisinau. Activists have been demanding the resignation of the Moldovan president, prime minister and the chief prosecutor, while also calling for early parliamentary elections and prompt action to tackle corruption.
The protests are organized primarily by two political parties, the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova and the left-wing Our Party.
Usatii is the mayor of the country’s second largest city of Balti. His party was removed from the ballot in November 2014, a couple of days before the parliamentary elections.
