The poverty of Liberians is being exploited by GlaxoSmithKline and WHO and 40 dollars is being offered to induce people to participant in one of the most dangerous experimental vaccine trials ever in modern history.

Liberians are being offered a tiny sum to risk their health and even life in a vaccine trial, which aims to enroll 30,000 people.

Not even the Nazis enrolled that many prisoners in their malaria and jaundice vaccine experiments.

No Ebola vaccine has ever passed clinical phase 1. That means, no Ebola vaccine has ever been shown safe enough to proceed to phase 2. Deaths and damage from the ongoing experimental Ebola vaccine trials in Liberia are, therefore, to be expected.

Unfortunately, it seems that GlaxoSmithKline, WHO and the Liberian government know that deaths and damage are likely to occur . That is why they appear to have been been so keen to bypass the traditional clinical trial structure to conduct a vast experiment on thousands of Liberians.

Their cynical calculation appears to be that the people who take the vaccine and their relatives will be too poor to gain redress and they can bribe enough key Liberian officials.

According to media reports, Liberians who take the vaccine are not being informed of the substantial risks associated with the experiment in breach of rules on informed consent.

Given this incredible abuse, it is very welcome indeed that the Liberian parliament has decided to investigate these trials, which are being conducted without consulting the representatives of the people of Liberia.

During a hearing at the Liberian parliament last week, it emerged that there are no plans to compensate people whose health is damaged or destroyed by the experimental vaccines. GSK and WHO expect the impoverished Liberian people to pay compensation for any victims of their experiments. What happens if thousands are sick? How will the Liberian tax payers find the money to compensate them?

Understanding the risks, only 108 people participated in the vaccine trial last week, and it is to be hoped that this criminal experiment is stopped immediately before the public lose trust in their government.

Whatever scientific knowledge may be gained from this wild experiment — and it is not clear that anything of value will be gained — can in no way justify the real risks to the health of 30,000 people, which is posed by the Ebola vaccine.

Dr Stephen Kennedy, the leader of the vaccine trial, should have his medical license withdrawn because the trial is in breach of every accepted medical standard. The flimsy legal basis for the vaccine trial rests on an evidently fraudulent Ebola emergency declaration. And if investigations and inquiries in future determine the declaration to have been fraudulently made, Dr Kennedy as well as GSK and WHO management could, and should, be held to account for conducting dangerous experiments on the Liberian people for spurious scientific reasons.
