Supporters of Egypt’s ousted President Mohamed Morsi have called for nationwide demonstrations on Tuesday demanding his reinstatement.
The Anti-Coup Alliance, which is led by the Muslim Brotherhood, said in a Monday statement that the Coup Is Terrorism demonstrations would be held to mark the ouster of Morsi on July 3.
The alliance “calls for active participation in these demonstrations and other activities aimed at achieving the return of Morsi,” the statement said.
The movement also said that it is documenting evidence against the Egyptian military to present at the International Court of Justice.
“The free Egyptians in Europe are documenting the crimes of coup leaders so they can be presented in the International Court of Justice,” the group said.
State media said on Sunday that Morsi will stand trial in a criminal court along with 14 other members of the Muslim Brotherhood movement on charges of “incitement to murder and violence” in December 2012, when fatal clashes erupted between the supporters and opponents of Morsi in the capital, Cairo.
In July, a court in Egypt ordered the detention of Morsi over allegations of collaboration with Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.
Morsi was due to be questioned on whether he collaborated with Hamas in attacks on police stations and prison breaks in early 2011, when he and some members of the Muslim Brotherhood escaped from jail during a revolution against the regime of former dictator Hosni Mubarak.
Hamas reacted to the allegations on July 26 and condemned Morsi’s detention, saying that “it is based on the premise that the Hamas movement is hostile.”
