Putin, Iraqi PM discuss Mosul offensive, Aleppo in phone call

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his support for the Iraqi government in its battle against terrorism, in particular in Mosul, commending its efforts to retain sovereignty and territorial integrity, speaking on the phone with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Tuesday. Putin and Abadi gave a high appraisal of the work of the joint information center in Baghdad established last year to coordinate the fight against Islamic State between Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria. The Russian president also informed the Iraqi leader of the Russian efforts to deescalate the situation in Aleppo and plans to introduce humanitarian pauses for the safe passage of civilians and rebels willing to leave the city.
