Gleydson Carvalho, a radio presenter for the Brazilian station Radio Liberdade FM, was killed during his regular live show, local media reported on Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The incident happened on Thursday, when two unidentified gunmen burst into the studio of the radio station in the city of Camocim in northeastern Brazil, some 170 miles from Fortaleza, the local daily Folha de S.Paulo reported.

According to local police, cited by the media, the presenter was shot three times in the head. He was hospitalized, but later succumbed to his injuries. The shooters escaped on a motorbike.

Gleydson Carvalho was known to be critical of local authorities and an anti-corruption crusader.

Martinho Marques, a friend of the victim, told Sputnik on Friday, that Carvalho had recently begun to act nervously, locking the door from his studio to the hallway while on air. According to him, Carvalho has been threatened previously.

Marques added that “there were people who did not like his style [of journalism].”
