One person is dead and another one has been injured during a shooting incident at the headquarters of the US National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland.

The incident happened after the driver of a vehicle tried to ram a gate at the National Security Agency in Anne Arundel County on Monday morning.

An unnamed American law enforcement official said NSA police opened fire after the car with two people inside tried to ram the gate at the base.

The driver and passenger in the car were dressed in women’s clothes.

NSA spokeswoman Mary Doyle confirmed the fatalities and said emergency workers were on the scene.

The National Security Agency is investigating the shooting with assistance from the FBI.

FBI spokeswoman Amy J. Thoreson announced that the incident is not believed to be related to terrorism.

Thoreson said the agency is working with the US Attorney’s Office in Maryland to determine if federal charges are warranted.

Fort Meade, which is a US Army installation, is home to about 11,000 military personnel along with 29,000 civilian employees.
