Syrian army troops continue to gain ground in their fight against foreign-backed armed groups near the northeastern city of Hasakah.
The Syrian soldiers managed to secure more areas after major advances in battles with militants near the northeastern city on Wednesday.
After a series of mop-up operations, the Syrian troops captured the strategic village of Sabah al-Khair. They also seized a large number of explosive devices from al-Qaeda-linked militants.
The army is currently in control of farms and granaries in the area.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Some sources say around 130,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by Western-backed militants.
According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
