Syrian Forces stop Al-Qaeda Rebel attacks on chemical stockpiles
Syrian army repels rebel attacks on chemical stockpiles – SANA
Damascus has accused Syrian opposition forces of attacking two sites where chemical weapons are stored, SANA news agency reported, citing the country’s Foreign Ministry. The attacks occurred amid preparations for the Syrian chemical weapons stockpile to be shipped outside of the country for destruction, the source added, according to Naharnet. “On December 21, 2013, armed terrorist groups staged a major attack against one of the sites, located in central Syria…but the authorities fought back and the attack failed,” said the source, who did not clarify where exactly the site was located. Another site was also attacked by rebels, including those from Al-Nusra Front and the Salafist Jaysh al-Islam, in Damascus province. Similar attempts to attack such sites are ongoing, the source added.
