US: Britain will be weaker without EU

The White House has warned that Britain’s break up from the European Union (EU) could weaken its position on the world stage.
Washington believes that the departure of Britain from the EU could put the country at risk and also reduce the US influence on the continent.
“It is important to state very clearly that a strong UK in a strong Europe is in America’s national interest,” a senior US administration official said.
“We recognize national states but see the EU as a force multiplier.”
The US’s warning comes after British Prime Minister David Cameron described leaving the 27-nation bloc as “imaginable” for the first time.
“All futures for Britain are imaginable. We are in charge of our own destiny, we can make our own choices”, he said on Tuesday when asked in the Commons about the coalition’s future relationship with the EU.
The UK Prime Minister is under growing pressure from backbenchers for a referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU.
