NICK CLEGG is trying to muscle in on eurozone crisis talks by securing a place at the next EU summit, it was claimed yesterday.
The Deputy Prime Minister is determined to join David Cameron at the crunch meeting next month.
Pro-Europe Mr Clegg, dismayed when the Prime Minister used the British veto at the last summit, aims to “set the agenda” at the next EU gathering.
He will start by hosting a January 9 London meeting of liberal-minded ministers from other European states to build common ground.
He may also attend an eve-of-summit gathering of liberal sister parties before an informal meeting to discuss issues of growth and competition. Sources say he is considering going to the summit itself, due to start on January 27.
Such a move has already sparked anger among Tory MPs, thrilled when Mr Cameron vetoed a new EU treaty this month while Mr Clegg was in Britain.

One Tory backbencher said yesterday: “If he wants to go to Brussels then he should go there for good. It’s where he belongs.”
