A US Navy Captain Select Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz was sentenced to 78 months in prison for one count of conspiracy and one count of bribery after admitting he accepted personal gifts from a foreign defense contractor in exchange for classified US Navy information.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Misiewicz is one of ten people charged to date in connection with the scheme. Last month, US Navy Captain Daniel Dusek was sentenced to 3.8 years in prison for his role in the conspiracy.
“Misiewicz admitted that when he was stationed in Japan, on the USS [United States Ship] Mustin and in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he used his position and influence within the US Navy to advance the interests of GDMA[Glenn Defense Marine Asia], including by providing [CEO Leonard Glenn] Francis with classified ship schedules and other proprietary US Navy information,” the US Department of Justice said in a press release on Friday.
In exchange for the information, Misiewicz admitted receiving “cash, gifts, travel expenses, entertainment and the services of prostitutes” from GDMA.
Misiewicz further admitted to attempting to avoid detection by using secret email accounts that he shared with Francis and other co-conspirators.
