An American political analyst says President Barack Obama and other US officials are playing the blame game with Russia over the crisis in Ukraine while the blame lies with Washington.

Obama and his administration officials have repeatedly accused Russia of not upholding a deal reached a week ago in Geneva to de-escalate the crisis in Ukraine.

The Geneva deal which was agreed upon by Ukraine’s interim government, the US, Russia, and the European Union on April 17 called for all sides to resolve the crisis in eastern Ukraine where Ukrainian authorities ordered a military offensive against anti-Kiev protesters who seized buildings in several towns and cities.

However, Obama said on Friday that Russia was not committed to the deal and that Washington and its European allies were discussing measures to sanction broad sections of Russia’s economy.

According to the White House, Obama, his French counterpart, the German chancellor, and the Italian prime minister have agreed to coordinate additional steps against Russia.

Meanwhile, Moscow says the other parties to the Geneva agreement have not done anything to ease the crisis in Ukraine.

“The Ukrainian government, or the United States in pressuring the Ukrainian government, has not eliminated or given an indication that the crowds that were gathered Maidan in Kiev, which was really the cause of this effective coup in Ukraine, have been dispersed at all,” Bill Jones with the Executive Intelligence Review said in a phone interview with Press TV.

“The agreement has not really moved forward to any great extent. On the contrary, decisions are being made and from what we could see maybe an action has been taken to crack down on the occupants which is being threatened by the Ukrainian government,” he added.

Jones also noted that remarks made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that the US has not done anything to de-escalate the crisis in Ukraine were “quite correct.”

“What President Obama is trying to do or what the US government is doing is to play the blame game where the blame lies primarily with them,” he concluded.
