The Departments of Homeland Security and State, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and US intelligence community elements will deploy Foreign Fighter Surge Teams to work with countries to counter terrorist travel, according to the statement of the White House.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States will send special foreign fighter surge teams overseas to prevent terrorists from travelling, the White House announced in a press release on Monday.

“The Departments of Homeland Security and State, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and US intelligence community elements will deploy Foreign Fighter Surge Teams to work with countries to counter terrorist travel,” the release said.

The decision comes as part of the US bolstering of its Visa Waiver Program after the Paris terrorist attacks and amid the current threat posed by foreign terrorist fighters.

The US government beefed up security across the country after a group of terrorists conducted seven attacks in different districts of Paris on November 13. The Islamic State terrorist group State (known as Daesh in the Arab world) claimed responsibility for the tragedy that left 130 people killed and over 360 injured.

Three days after the incidents, the Islamic State released a video threatening to attack Washington, DC.
